With the advancement of technology social network has become integral part of life. Facebook, instagram, tweeter, tik tok has become a friend to many people. According to a research taking a long break from social media helps to fight depression and anxiety. According to authors of a new study individuals were ceased to use social network for one week and there was substantial improvement in their well being.

 

The research was conducted by a team of researchers from University of Bath ( UK) and not using social network freed nine hours of week and there was substantial improvement in their health.  The research was conducted among individuals aged 18 to 72. The participants spent on average 8 hours per week on social media. They were reported significant improvement in well being, depression and anxiety than those who continued to use social media suggesting a short term benefit.

 

If you find you are negatively impacting from using social network it could be worth cutting down on your usage to see if it helps. Over the past 15 years social media has revolutionized how we communicate.  In the UK the number of adults using social media increased from 45% in 2011 to 71% in 2021. Among 16 to 44-year-olds, as many as 97% of us use social media and scrolling is the most frequent online activity we perform.
